Stettyn Family Vineyards wins Top Heritage Wine Trophy

Stettyn Family Vineyards, a member of the Old Vine Project, has received the Top Heritage Wine Trophy at the 21st SA Terroir Wine Awards for its Shackleton Old Vine Chenin Blanc 2025.

The wine comes from a Certified Heritage Vineyard in Villiersdorp, planted in 1984. More than 40 years later, the vineyard is still producing fruit that is being recognised at the highest level.

As vines age, their yields tend to decline. Keeping these vineyards in production depends on growers seeing value in older vines, along with careful farming and years of experience.

The Shackleton vineyard has remained in production for more than four decades.

The 2025 Chenin Blanc is the latest wine from this historic vineyard.

The SA Terroir Wine Awards recognise wines that reflect a specific South African wine-growing area. Each entry must be certified Wine of Origin and come from a defined origin, such as a Single Vineyard, Estate, Ward or District.

For the Old Vine Project, this award highlights both the wine and the vineyard behind it. It also shows why protecting South Africa’s old vineyards matters. These awards help build the case for keeping older vines in the ground and supporting the people who farm them.
